About

A small practice built for consequential systems

Next Level Code exists because the software that matters most to an organisation is rarely the software that is easiest to buy. It has to fit an estate that already exists, satisfy people who did not ask for it, and keep working after everyone involved has moved on.

How we are built

Founder-led, delivered by a collective

Founded in 2024, Next Level Code is a founder-led practice. Our projects are delivered by a hand-picked collective of software architects, senior engineers and AI specialists, led by the founder — assembled for the shape of each engagement rather than staffed from a bench.

That structure is deliberate. It means the people on your project were chosen for it, that the person accountable for the outcome is also close enough to the work to see it going wrong, and that we can say no to engagements we are not right for. The trade is that we take on fewer projects at once — which is the point.

What we optimise for

Four positions we actually hold

The estate as it is, not as it should be

Every interesting system has history. Treating that history as an obstacle to be cleared is how modernisation projects fail; treating it as the design constraint is how they land.

Boring where it counts

We use well-understood technology for the parts that must not fail, and spend the novelty budget where it creates advantage. Interesting infrastructure is a liability someone inherits.

Written for the next reader

Code is read far more often than it is written, usually by someone with less context and less time. That reader is who we optimise for.

An honest no

We will tell you when a project should be smaller, delayed, bought instead of built, or not done. It costs us revenue and it is the reason clients come back.
